刚果攀鼠亚科(学名:Deomyinae)是啮齿目鼠科五个亚科当中最新的一个亚科,包含四个属;成立以前,本亚科的成员旧属鼠亚科或Dendromurinae。有部分文献称呼本亚科为 非洲刺毛鼠科(学名:Acomyinae),特别是在本亚科演化支存在的关键物种、刚果攀鼠属的Deomys ferugineus被发现之前。由于刚果攀鼠属的学名比非洲刺毛鼠属较早被命名,所以在这条演化支的命名上有优化权。
在生物形态学上,本亚科物种并没有可以与其他亚科成员分辨出来的明显特征。由文献提出可从它们是否存在第三上大臼齿来判断,但不获普遍接纳。所以本亚科纯綷是因为基因突变的共同特征而成立的,而这涉及对这些物种的细胞核、线粒体DNA及DNA-DNA杂化在统计学上的分析。基于这个理由,预期当科学家对其他鼠科物种的分子系统发生学研究增加,本亚科成员可能会继续增加,从其他亚科(很可能还是鼠亚科或Dendromurinae )迁入。
由于本亚科的所有成员均在非洲栖息,它们的起源很可能亦同样在非洲;不过非洲刺毛鼠属亦有物种分布于亚洲。
