金牛座EQ是黄道星座金牛座的一颗三合星,它包括密接的食双星。该系统过于黯淡,无法用肉眼观察,基线的视星等为10.5等[3]。在食的期间,系统的主极小期亮度降至11.03等,然后在次极小期降至10.97等[3]。次极小期是全食[7]。根据视差的量测,它位于距离太阳约730光年的地方[2]。
恒星HV 6189在1940年被哈罗·沙普利( Harlow Shapley)和艾米莉·M·休斯( Emily M. Hughes)确认为短周期变星[9],然后再1954年,苏联天文学家弗拉基米尔·普拉托诺维奇·采谢维奇对其进行了更深入的研究[6]。它被确定为大熊座W型变星,并被注意到位于疏散星团昴宿星团的区域[10]。对采谢维奇数据的分析以及B.S.Whitney在1972年的后续观测表明,它的周期是可变的。他在孔科利天文台的观测显示周期为8.19 h[11]。Wystan Benbow和Robert L.Mutel在1995年建立了食变星的光变曲线,显示了恒星表面存在活动区的证据[12]。轨道周期的变化继续被观察到,在2002年Theodor Pribulla和Martin Vańko提出它是由系统中的第三个天体引起的。他们将其建模为低质量的红矮星,轨道周期为50.2年[13]。
这是一个浅接触的联星系统[7],属于大熊座W型变星的A子型[3]。它的轨道周期为8.1924小时[6],半长轴是太阳半径的2.48倍。轨道呈现周期性变化,其周期为22.7年,振幅为0.0058天。2010年观测到类似凌的事件[7]。质量更大的成分是一颗有很深对流层的太阳型恒星,出现磁活动,覆盖着显著的星斑 [4]。
