馬尼托巴省是位於加拿大西部的草原三省之一。[1]根據2021年加拿大人口普查顯示，該省共有1,342,153名居民，是加拿大人口第五多的省份。同時該省也是陸地面積第六大的省份，其面積為540,310.19平方公里（208,614.93平方英里）。[2]馬尼托巴省目前有137個自治市鎮[3]，其中10個被歸類為城市。[4]

馬尼托巴省的城市、鄉鎮和村莊被稱為自治市鎮。其中特別是城區自治市鎮，是根據1996年《市政法》的條款組建的。馬尼托巴省的一個城區自治市鎮如若想被視為城市，其人口不得少於7,500人[5]，儘管弗林弗倫（其部分地區位於鄰近的薩斯喀徹溫省）[6]的人口數低於這一門檻。[4]根據馬尼托巴省市政協會收集的2022年市政選舉結果顯示，每個城市的市政府都有一名市長。該省的溫尼伯市和布蘭登市皆存在更低一級的行政區劃，而其他城市則不存在更低一級的行政區劃。[7]
