He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the Department of Chinese Literature at Shih Hsin University.
Creative Journey
At the age of four, he began watching Pili Glove Puppetry, while also following his grandfather to watch the Peking opera: You, Me, and Them, and accompanying his grandmother to watch Yang Li-hua’s Taiwanese opera performances. From an early age, he developed a deep passion for traditional opera, becoming well-versed in many stories and references from various opera traditions, which later became a source of inspiration for his creative work.
In elementary school, he became fascinated with home video games, starting with the Super Nintendo. He grew interested in the narrative aspects of video games, which eventually became one of the inspirations for his work A Sketch in Scarlet.
In middle school, he was introduced to Japanese Enka music through Sachiko Kobayashi and began learning Japanese. He later served as an Enka instructor at the China Youth Corps for seven years.
In college, he formally began studying Kunqu opera, specializing in the Xiaosheng (young male) role.
In 2019, he became a Shingon Buddhist monk at Koyasan, receiving the Dharma name Yande. That same year, he started performing stand-up comedy, using humor to promote Buddhism. He also began learning other traditional performing arts, including Nanguan, Cheguzhen, and Rakugo.
He wrote the scripts for the TV Taiwanese Operas "Gyōki Bodhisattva" and "Ennin Master" for Da Ai Television's "Stories of Eminent Monks," both performed by the Tang Mei Yun Taiwanese Opera Company. He is a five-time champion of Gold Sun TV 's "Japanese Singing King" competition[3] and has also participated in "Talk Talk Show" on PTS Taigi[4].
