Fusō was damaged by several bomb hits during this attack. John R. Bruning, Jr. (Ship Strike Pacific, 2005, Zenith Press, p. 98) identifies the ship in the background as battleship Yamashiro but Anthony Tully in his book, The Battle of Surigao Strait (University of Indiana Press, 2009), p. 138, appears to identify the ship in the background (from a different but similar photograph) as the heavy cruiser Mogami.
