English: Wat Niwet Thammaprawat is located on an island in the Chao Phraya River in Banlane sub-district, Bang Pa-In district, opposite Bang Pa-In Royal Palace. This temple was constructed in 1876 by King Rama V in order to use as a location to carry out merit making while staying at Bang Pa-In Royal Palace. This temple was designed by Mr.Grassi and his brother.The unique feature of the temple is a western architecture in which the ubosot was designed in Gothic art, resembling a Christian cathedral. The belfry is in pointed cone shape and there are flying buttresses connecting the out walls with stilts. Tourists can ride a cable car strung across the river with no charge. It is notable that the structure is the only Buddhist temple built in a European style in Thailand and gets the sobriquet“Notre Dame de Paris of Asia” as it is located on an island similar to Notre Dame de Paris which is located on Ile de France.
